well, start by dying it darker shades so your parents get used to it instead of going straight out black at first! ive done this, and it worked well, and MY parents are uptight-prunes! as for the texture, curly is awesome, mine is boring-straight. but if ya wanna rock it straight, get a straightned from conair, their stuff works great. use a straightening shampoo and conditioner. then, usually jagged edges make it look wicked emo!
