Can i straighten afro hair into an emo cut?

im a white male (but i have afro hair...i know wtf?), i dont know if i can straighten it or do something to it to make it go down into a kind of emo cut, any ideas??

I'm 17, male, and pretty much in the same boat as you :P My hair isn't exactly in anyway like a coloured person's afro, but it's still a complete ***** to manage.

It's curly/wavy, frizzy, dry, and just reminds me of straw :/ It's worst when I've just had a shower, even when I've used specialist repair shampoo and conditioned.

I've started to straighten my hair every day now, and use anti-frizz serum. It's a pain in the ***, as it now takes me 20 minutes extra to get ready in the mornings. :(

Sure the emo-look looks better, and the large majority of the girls I know love it (and like to play with it :P), but it's the bane of my life atm.. I shower every morning as a rule of thumb, but nowdays I abstain from taking the occasional afternoon shower I used to enjoy, purely because it means I'd have to spend another goddamn 20 minutes straightening my hair -.-

But to conclude, you might as well try it, just to see if the look suits you. It's a lot of effort at times, and right now I'm contemplating shaving my damned hair off :P

ask your hair dresser!

It'll probably be hard to straighten if it's really coarse, but give it a shot with a Chi straightener. They're about $100 but worth every single penny. Definitely moisturize and condition your hair as often as possible. Good luck (:

yes..all you have to do is straighten your hair and style it the "emo" way you want and keep it straight..but even if your hair is "afro"-ish washed out..it should still have that style

If you're willing, get a relaxer, and get it cut. Depending your hair, you have to get it refreshed every 6 weeks-6 months. White people can go six months, but, it depends on your hair. So yeah.

one thing that some girls do when they want to redesign their hair is get a perm. Though, that's probably something you don't want to do. It relaxes your hair so you can style it the way you want though.

im sure its possible but depeding on how afro itd be difficult, (itd be difficult anyway).

i can suggest what we did for our friend who has curly hair.

wash it first and brush it while its wet (maybe with shampoo if its really difficult)

towel dry it so its still damp and striaghten it with hair straightner - after doing each bit you will probably have to use some sort of mild hair gel to make it stay (dont want to strong or you hair will look like its plastered on).

When u say emo cut do you mean bangs across ure face? If thats what u mean then i most def. wouldnt. Just coz it would take forever to do ure hair in the morning, but thats just me.

Get a perm combed through your hair. It will straighten it, and you can cut it however.

WTF?!, you're a white guy with an afro?!, i usually don't repeat myself but, WTF?!

i think you might have to get your hair cut a bit at the front before you straighten it, you could also get a chemical straightening if you want the afro gone for good. depending on what colour your hair is you could have an emo-afro, if you have dark dark hair put some blonde in, there are some emo guys with this hair at my school....not to be rude but where exactly are your parents from...?
